Chloe Bussell

Swim Wild Academy Assistant Teacher

I have always had a passion for swimming. For almost my entire life, swimming has been one of the few sports I could really enjoy, whether in the pool or in the waves. Over the years I’ve specialised in life-saving skills, becoming a volunteer life-saving instructor at 15, and not long after becoming a lifeguard.

I am a new addition to the Swim Wild team. Before this, I spent over five years as an assistant swim instructor and camp coach at Cheltenham College, where my love for teaching has only grown. I still work with many of the teachers that taught me to swim all those years ago!

Despite living in Cheltenham, my heart has always belonged to Cornwall. My first ever Christmas was spent down here visiting grandparents in St Buryan, and every year since we have spent many holidays here, our favourite place being Sennen Cove. Cornwall has become a second home to me, and so when I finally moved down here in September 2023 to study Environmental Science, I feel I am here to stay.

Outside of swimming, I love playing the piano, clarinet, and singing. I have been part of many choirs over the years, including the Gloucestershire Youth Choir, Cathedral Choir and Tewkesbury Abbey Scholar Cantorum. I love reading, and I take a lot of care in looking after the many plants I currently have in my room. I have also recently taken up crocheting.

I am hoping to advance my swimming journey further by becoming a fully qualified swim teacher, so maybe some of you will be taught by me next year!

It has been a great joy to pass on my knowledge and passion for swimming and water safety. I take care in making sure each child gets the attention and help they need to gain their confidence in both the water and in themselves, and ultimately how to have fun!
